Attorney Image and Personal Branding: Guides by SBD Marketing

Most people choosing a defense lawyer see your photo before they read a word you wrote. These guides cover headshots, clothing, bios and the rest of an attorney’s public image, and how to keep it honest and consistent.

How Attorney Headshots, Clothing, and Personal Branding Influence Client Trust

For criminal defense firms

How SBD Marketing puts your image to work

SBD Marketing works only with criminal defense law firms, and only with one firm per city. Good photos and bios do the most when they sit on a fast website and a complete Google profile.

  1. Attorney bio pages that earn the call
Bio and team pages built around your real photos, the courts you appear in and your criminal law background, laid out to work on a phone.
  2. A Google Business Profile people recognize
Your headshot, team, office and entrance photos added to your profile so the people who find you in the map pack know who and what to expect.
  3. One consistent identity for AI search
Matching names, photos and firm details across your site and directories, so ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity can connect the sources that describe you.

Five things to check on your own photos and profiles

You can look at all of these yourself in an afternoon, with a phone and a list of your profiles.

Shrink your headshot

Look at your photo at thumbnail size on a phone. If your face doesn’t read clearly at that size, it isn’t doing its job in the map listing.

Compare every profile

Open your website bio, Google profile, LinkedIn and directory listings side by side. Note any old photos or differences in your name.

Find the stock people

Look for stock photos of people a reader might mistake for your lawyers or staff, and replace them with real photos.

Check your office photos

Make sure your Google profile shows your entrance, reception and consultation room as they look today.

Read your bio out loud

Check that it names the courts you appear in, your years in criminal law and any prosecutor or public defender background.

How we put these guides together

Each guide draws on Google’s own help pages for Search and Business Profiles, the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, state bar advertising rules, and what SBD Marketing sees working with defense firms day to day. Platforms and rules change, so every guide notes when it was last updated. Attorney Image and Personal Branding is researched and published by SBD Marketing.
